Saudi Arabia Trade & Investment Summary

U.S. goods and services trade with Saudi Arabia totaled an estimated $46.6 billion in 2022. Exports were $21.6 billion; imports were $24.9 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade deficit with Saudi Arabia was $3.3 billion in 2022.

U.S. goods exports to Saudi Arabia in 2022 were $11.4 billion, up 2.4 percent ($269 million) from 2021 but down 37 percent from 2012. U.S. goods imports from Saudi Arabia totaled $23.3 billion in 2022, up 69.7 percent ($9.6 billion) from 2021, but down 58 percent from 2012.  The U.S. goods trade deficit with Saudi Arabia was $11.9 billion in 2022, a 359.1 percent increase ($9.3 billion) over 2021.

U.S. exports of services to Saudi Arabia were an estimated $10.2 billion in 2022, 1.0 percent ($107 million) less than 2021, but 28 percent greater than 2012 levels. U.S. imports of services from Saudi Arabia were an estimated $1.7 billion in 2022, 31.1 percent ($394 million) more than 2021, and 66 percent greater than 2012 levels. Leading services exports from the U.S. to Saudi Arabia were in the financial services, travel, and professional and management services sectors. The United States had a services trade surplus of an estimated $8.6 billion with Saudi Arabia in 2022, down 5.5 percent from 2021.

U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI) in Saudi Arabia (stock) was $12.2 billion in 2022, a 1.9 percent decrease from 2021. U.S. direct investment in Saudi Arabia is led by nonbank holding companies, mining, and wholesale trade.

Saudi Arabia's FDI in the United States (stock) was $6.8 billion in 2022, up 7.0 percent from 2021.
