The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) celebrates the successes of our alumni, who have excelled in different spheres in their pursuit of excellence. By their achievements, these graduates have not only made themselves proud, but continue to serve as UTT ambassadors, keeping the UTT flag flying high.

In 2006, UTT began its Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme at UTT Corinth and Valsayn Campuses. Adriel Benjamin was among the first cohort of students to enrol in this programme, and made a lasting impression on students and staff during his tenure. He graduated in 2010, facilitating his transition from student to teacher. Currently Adriel is a Teacher at the St. Paul's Anglican Primary School.

Reflecting on his time at UTT, Adriel describes his journey as one filled with challenges and successes, coupled with new experiences and fond memories. Despite a heavy workload, Adriel made time to enjoy his student experience and campus life at UTT as he participated in a number of activities, which he believes contributed to his academic success.

Adriel candidly says that, "I am the teacher that I am today, partly because of the support and encouragement of UTT Instructors who ensured that my colleagues and I were well-trained and advised." He emphasised that the B.Ed. programme allowed him to be exposed to different theories and strategies, which helped him to better understand each learner, as well as cater to the different learning needs of each student. For Adriel, these theories and strategies continue to inform his practice as a Teacher and have greatly changed his perspective on the dynamic teaching process.

Fully committed to his calling, Adriel sees teaching as more than just a job. This is evidenced by the fact that Adriel was bestowed the prestigious Frank B. Seepersad Memorial Teacher of the Year Award for 2017 by the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers' Association's (TTUTA). This achievement was the first for any graduate of UTT's Bachelor of Education programmes. He was also presented with the Anglican Teachers' Association's (ATA) Teacher of the Year Award in 2014.

Adriel credits The University of Trinidad and Tobago with setting him on the pathway to success, and has adapted the acronym UTT - Utilising Talent for Transformation - as his personal statement.
