Garrett Roberts, final year student of UTT’s BFA in Fashion Design.

GARRETT ROBERTS describes himself as a 'creative genius'. He is seemingly reserved, but his avant garde fashion designs convey a bold and daring personality.

A final year student of The University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT) Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Fashion Design programme, Garrett, an Antigua and Barbuda national, feels confident that his work will be showcased on the international stage.

From a tender age, Garrett was keenly aware of his passion for all things creative, with his initial involvement being primarily in visual arts. He admits that, over time, his interest morphed into that of fashion, with him becoming a Professional Stylist to some of Jamaica's biggest entertainers including Shaggy and Busy Signal.

Garrett, known for his high fashion and visually rich clothing line House of Arjent, saw the need to fully harness his craft and formalise his trade with accredited qualifications from a recognised institution. Without hesitation, Garrett enrolled at UTT and during the course of his studies, has seen tremendous growth as a designer, achieving clarity in his overall vision and aesthetic.

Garrett believes the instruction he received at UTT's Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design (CAFD) was very instrumental in his growth and development. He was consistently challenged to become a better version of himself and proudly states that UTT's Fashion programme has "broadened [his] horizons in the multifaceted world of fashion". He is currently preparing his thesis collection Human Croquette - The Immigrant Sound to be presented at CAFD's Designer Critic and Senior Thesis Showcase on June 16th, 2019.

On the cusp of graduating, Garrett has already mapped his next move, as he intends to pursue training in Specialised Merchandising.

UTT wishes Garrett all the best as he prepares to make his mark on the global fashion industry.
