GATE policy introduced in November 2020
Academic year - 2020/2021

 

Existing Policies:

  • All Applications will be Means Tested.
  • Household income less than $10,000 per month is eligible for 100% GATE funding.
  • Household income more than $10,000 per month but less than $30,000 is eligible for 75% GATE funding.
  • Household income more than $30,000 per month but less than $75,000 is eligible for 50% GATE funding.
  • Household income more than $75,000 per month, is ineligible for GATE funding.

New Policies effective August 2020

  • Students who applied for GATE and was approved for a second programme before the new policy was released, these applications be honored.
  • Effective from August 2020, funding under the GATE Programme be provided for no more than one (1) programme up to undergraduate level; -
    This states that students in this category who started a second undergraduate degree in September 2020 will not receive GATE i.e. they need to self-fund from September 2020.
  • The discontinuation of funding for postgraduate programmes with effect from August 2020
    This states that students in this category who started a Post graduate degree in September 2020 will not receive GATE i.e. they need to self-fund from September 2020.
  • Students currently enrolled in postgraduate programmes receive GATE funding until August 21.    
    Refers to students who started before August 2020.
  • Students currently enrolled in undergraduate programmes continue to be funded for the normal duration of the programme.
    Refers to students who started before August 2020.
  • Students who are already in possession of undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications, regardless of whether or not they were beneficiaries of the GATE Programme, will not be able to access funding for any other programme. -
    A student could self-fund for a certificate and apply for funding for a Diploma or self-fund for a Diploma and apply for funding for a Degree
    This relates to students who matriculate from one programme to the next, they cannot self-fund for a Diploma and apply for funding for another Diploma.
  • Students who completed the Certificate in Applied Engineering will not be funded for any other programme.
