Institutional Research - Research Projects

UTT's institutional research activities are guided by an institutional research agenda which is developed by the IE unit annually following consultations with key stakeholders including faculty, staff, students and senior management. This research agenda documents the schedule of research projects which the unit undertakes in each academic year to address identified information needs, measure key institutional effectiveness metrics, investigate the impact of emerging higher education trends on UTT, and provide data to satisfy routine regulatory requirements. Additionally, the IE unit compiles secondary data on enrolment, graduation, admissions, courses and programmes, services, faculty and staff, to develop a repository of current accurate information on UTT's operations which is periodically communicated to key stakeholders and regulators and published on UTT's website under the Institutional Profile.

Another means by which the results of research activities are communicated is via an IE Research Bulletin.  This bulletin presents updates on institutional research undertaken within the academic year, research findings on key institutional trends and their impact on the university community.  It also considers these findings in the context of wider global trends and highlights topics of interest in higher education.

The IE unit is committed to providing both internal and external stakeholders with useful information based on its institutional research. In order to ensure that results from research projects guide UTT's decision-making and planning processes, copies of all research reports are submitted to the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost and the heads of units who would have actively collaborated in a specific project. Similarly, reports are presented to units where actionable information is relevant to them or when they are likely to have an integral role as a change agent.

Additionally, to ensure that issues raised by our students are adequately addressed and included in subsequent planning cycles, all research findings on student related projects are sent to the Office of the Provost, relevant academic centres, the Office of the Registrar, and the Student Support Services department.
