Welcome to the Utilities and Sustainable Engineering Unit

Welcome to the Utilities and Sustainable Engineering Programmes webpage where you can find information on our programmes offered.

Utilities and Sustainable Engineering is a well-established and full-fledged engineering discipline worldwide. The Utilities Engineer or Technician performs a variety of analytical / technical processes within a number of public utilities, industries and industrial processes. The graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake the challenges associated with this field. In addition, the engineer and technician will be able to appreciate and work effectively in the emerging and rapidly evolving Green and Renewable Energy Industry encompassing renewable generation, efficient utilization and energy storage.

One of the main success factors of the programmes is the interaction and involvement of the local industries; the main market for the graduates.  The programmes have an Industry Advisory Council made up of senior management from the representative companies.  All programme curricula are periodically reviewed by the Advisory Council to ensure relevance to industrial and technological trends.

The Utilities and Sustainable Engineering Unit within The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) comprises:

  • M.Eng. in Utilities Engineering
  • B.A.Sc. in Utilities Engineering
  • NETD in Instrumentation Engineering (IET)
  • NETD in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (EEET)
  • NETD in Renewable Energy Engineering (REET)

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Utilities Engineering is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

The National Engineering Technician Diplomas are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purpose of fully meeting the academic requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.
