Essential instructions for effective searches:
- Search for phrases by putting search terms
in quotes.
For example, searching on: "information technology"
finds all web pages containing the phrase: information technology.
However, searching on just the words: information technology
(without quotes)
finds all web pages that contain both the word: information
and the word: technology.
- Search for web page titles only. If you
are trying to find a particular homepage, limit your search to just words/phrases
that appear in the titles of web pages. In the box below, type: title:
followed by your search word (or phrase in quotes, as noted above),
and press the ENTER key or the SUBMIT button.
- Use Boolean operators (AND/OR) between
two or more search terms to expand or limit searches. Use of OR
finds all web pages that contain either search term. Use of AND
finds all web pages that contain both search terms. Note: if no Boolean
operators are used in your search, the search will automatically default
to AND, i.e. a search on: Georgetown University will actually
be a search on: Georgetown AND University.
- Complex queries (searches) like the following
are possible:
"transcript information" and (title: registrar)
