The Department of Linguistics offers courses of study leading to the Bachelor of Science in Linguistics; Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language; Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education; Master of Science in Linguistics; Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics. Graduate StudiesFounded with the School of Languages and Linguistics (est. 1949), Linguistics is the largest doctoral program at Georgetown and is internationally renowned for its strong programs in Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Theoretical Linguistics. The graduate student experience is enriched by a diverse student body, speaker series on a wide variety of topics, annual conferences, visiting researchers from around the world, and distinguished faculty who are actively engaged in both teaching and research. Undergraduate StudiesThe Linguistics Department offers a major in Linguistics, a minor in Linguistics, and five-year Joint Bachelor/Master's programs. Designated courses in Linguistics also satisfy the social science general education requirement for undergraduates in Georgetown College.
