OSI Forum: The Disproportionate Impact of School Discipline Policies on Race and Gender

Co-Director of the Safe and Responsive Schools Project, Bloomington, Indiana

Russell Skiba is the Co-Director of the Safe and Responsive Schools Project in Bloomington, Indiana, a U.S. Department of Education Projects of National Significance grant working with eleven schools in two states to develop comprehensive and preventive approach to ensuring school safety. Mr. Skiba is also a recipient of the Operation PUSH/Rainbow Coalition Push for Excellence award for his research on the disproportionate impact of school suspensions on minorities, and co-author of a number of reports about school discipline, including: Zero Tolerance, Zero Evidence: An Analysis of School Disciplinary Practice and The Color of Discipline: Sources of Racial and Gender Disproportionality in School Punishment.
