The main task of the Riksbank’s IT Department is to provide cost-efficient, user-oriented IT support to the Bank’s different business areas. The department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, purchasing, development, change and adaptation of applications and systems, as well as for general IT security and the PC environment. The Riksbank’s IT support is principally based on three technical platforms. The RIX payment system, the system for compiling balance of payments statistics, and a number of systems for external datacommunication are run today in a mainframe environment, while new systems are based on UNIX or Windows platforms. The Riksbank works with tried-and-tested IT solutions and mainly uses purchased standard systems.

The Riksbank’s IT vision serves as a guide for the department's activities, indicating the direction for the Bank's IT support over the coming five-year period. The IT vision was adopted by the Executive Board and includes an increased focus on support for information management in policy activities (structured document and data management), greater mobility and rationalisation with the aid of technical solutions. The relationship between the IT Department and the user departments is governed by a customer-supplier approach. This involves clear lines of contact between the departments and a focus on utility.

Organisation

The IT Department is headed by Marie Rudberg. Olof Fredriksson is deputy head and Johan Östberg is adviser to the department.

The department has around 70 employees and is divided into five divisions. In addition to the divisions, the department has a support staff consisting of an adviser, an IT strategist, an investigator and a secretary.
