Banknotes and Coins Division

The Banknotes and Coins Division is responsible for the supply of banknotes and coins.

 

The Riksbank’s subsidiary Svensk kontantförsörjning AB (SKAB) is charged with the task of keeping cash stocks and supplying banknotes and coins, as well as performing authenticity checks and destroying banknotes. The Banknotes and Coins Division is responsible for the Riksbank’s agreement with SKAB and for making sure that the company performs its tasks according to this agreement. Moreover, the division ensures that banknotes are destroyed in accordance with applicable rules. The division is responsible for the public procurement and ordering of banknotes and coins. It also plans deliveries of banknotes and coins and is responsible for managing the Riksbank’s stocks of banknotes and coins. The practical arrangements regarding the redemption of invalid and mutilated banknotes also fall within the division’s sphere of responsibility.

 

Moreover, the division carries out investigations and analyses in relation to cash and cash management.

 

Organisation

The Banknotes and Coins Division has 25 employees and is headed by Kristina Åkerberg.
