About The State News
Our mission
The purpose of The State News is to publish and distribute a newspaper for the community of Michigan State University and to serve as a practicum for students enrolled at Michigan State University.

Publication Information
The State News and statenews.com are publications of State News Inc. which is an independent, non-profit corporation that employs 150 MSU students.
The State News publishes 28,500 copies daily during the fall and spring semesters and 15,000 copies three times weekly during the summer sessions. There are no papers during semester breaks. Statenews.com is updated throughout the day as events warrant throughout the year.

State News, Inc.
State News, Inc. is a Michigan non-profit corporation directed by a twelve member Board of Directors.
The Board is legally and financially responsible for The State News and statenews.com. State News, Inc.; however, as a matter of policy, the Board is not involved in day-to-day operations of The State News. The Board works to ensure the financial and editorial independence of The State News and statenews.com. by:
1. Selecting the top management of The State News including the general manager and the student positions of Editor-in-Chief and Advertising Manager.
2. Setting broad policy and long-term goals.
Of the twelve members of the Board, three are employed full time in the print media or with recent full-time experience in the print media, and, if possible, alumni of Michigan State University; three are Michigan State University employees - either tenure stream faculty, faculty emeriti, or professional staff with job security as defined by the university; and six are students registered at Michigan State University who are not employed by The State News.
