Central Bank of Malta leaves the central intervention rate unchanged - The Central Bank of Malta left the central intervention rate unchanged at 3.25%. The decision was taken by the Governor at the end of the Monetary Policy Advisory Council meeting on 29 December 2005. The Governor considered that against a background of continued stability in the financial markets and in the absence of material changes in the relevant indicators, the current monetary policy stance remained appropriate. Monetary Statistical Release 12/2005 -Broad money (M3) declined by Lm6.4 million, or 0.2% in October after having risen during the previous two months. Monetary contraction was driven entirely by a rise in the other counterparts of M3, as both domestic credit and the net foreign assets of the banking system increased. Exhibition of Antique Coins used in Malta Inaugurated -The Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Michael C Bonello, inaugurated a permanent exhibition of antique coins used in Malta between 350 BC and AD 1855. The exhibition, which is located in the foyer of the Bank’s main premises, contains a representative selection of coins used in Malta from the Punic-Roman period to the early British era.
