All silver-coloured 50-öre coins minted between 1875 and 1991 are legal tender. However, with effect from 1 January 2006 these silver-coloured coins will become invalid. The copper-coloured 50-öre coins will remain legal tender.
50-öre coin minted during the period 1976 and 1991 (invalid from 1 January 2006)
The front of the larger 50-öre coin shows King Carl XVI Gustaf's monograph and the year the coin was struck. On the back of the coin is the figure 50. Above the figure is the text SVERIGE and below is the text ÖRE. The edge of the coin is smooth. The diameter of the coin is 22 mm and it weighs 4.5 g. The coin is designed by artist Lars Englund.

The front of the smaller 50-öre coin shows the lesser national coat of arms without the escutcheon and the year the coin was struck. The back shows the figure 50. Above the figure is the text SVERIGE and below is the text ÖRE. The edge is smooth. The diameter of the coin is 18.75 mm and it weighs 3.7 g. The coin is nickel-free and was first minted in 1992. The coin is designed by artist Bo Thorén.
