1.     Personnel Branches were created to enable members of the Canadian
Forces in related occupations to identify with each other in cohesive
professional groups.  These groups are based on similarity of military
roles, customs and traditions.  They should not be confused with the NDHQ
organizational elements, also called branches, such as those responsible to
Chief Personnel Careers and Senior Appointments, Chief Air Doctrine and
Operations and Chief Engineering and Maintenance.

2.     For the purposes of this order officer and non-commissioned member
(NCM) occupations are grouped into Personnel Branches of the Canadian
Forces as detailed in Annex A.  The officers' occupational structure is
promulgated in the A-PD-150 series (Canadian Forces Manual of Officers'
Occupational Structure).  The non-commissioned member occupational
structure is promulgated in the A-PD-123 Series (Canadian Forces Manual of
Non-Commissioned Members Occupational Structure).  The Branches are
applicable to personnel in the rank of private to colonel inclusive.

3.     NDHQ/Director Manpower Planning (DMP) is the coordinating authority
and the Assistant Deputy Minister (Personnel)(ADM(Per)) is the approving
authority for the designation of Personnel Branches and for the assignment
of occupations to the appropriate Branches.

4.     Each personnel branch listed in Annex A shall have a Branch Adviser 
or Branch Co-Advisers who will be designated by ADM(Per).  CFAO 4-11 details
the Branch Advisers/Co-Advisers role and functions.

5.     The establishment, purposes and use of Branch Funds is detailed in
CFAO 27-8.

6.     The instructions governing the authorization for and regulations in
respect of Branch Badges are contained in CFAO 62-4.
