The Communications Secretariat (INF) is responsible for the Riksbank’s communication strategy and coordinates external and internal communications.
The Executive Board of the Riksbank has adopted three documents to govern the Bank’s communication: The Communication Strategy (Aug 2000), the Mass Media Policy (Nov 2000) and Guidelines for Internal Communication (May 2002).
External communication
To maintain price stability and promote a safe and efficient payment system, it is vital that the Riksbank has legitimacy and the support of the general public. Transparency and clarity foster credibility for the Bank’s objectives and work methods. In this way, the public is given the opportunity to evaluate the Bank’s work. Therefore, the Riksbank takes a proactive approach to communication.
The Communications Secretariat is responsible for press services, the Bank’s website and the production and distribution of publications. The Secretariat also organises talks and seminars for students and teachers from upper-secondary schools and universities. The department's archivists provide service to the general public, the media and external researchers. The Secretariat is also responsible for answering questions from the public.
Internal communication
It is important for the Riksbank’s culture, efficiency and goal fulfilment that its staff is well informed about the Bank’s objectives and strategies and that they keep up to date with what is happening in the day-to-day activities. To ensure this, it is necessary to have efficient routines and channels for internal information. The Communications Secretariat is responsible for internal communication and the Riksbank’s library. The Secretariat also provides internal support in the form of translation into English and graphic design.
Organisation
The Secretariat has 19 employees, divided into the working areas of: publications, projects and translations, press service, internal information, web group, library and archives. The head of the Secretariat and the Riksbank’s head of Communications is Pernilla Meyersson.
