Nicaragua to end political spat

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Nicaraguan leaders said they would work to end the ongoing political crisis dogging the Central American country, President Enrique Bolanos said.

The deal to work to end the hostility was hammered out between Bolanos and Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega, El Nuevo Diario reported Tuesday.

Earlier this year, the president claimed the Sandinista and members of his own Liberal Party conspired to sabotage his administration after the government decided to prosecute former President Arnoldo Aleman on corruption charges. Aleman is serving 20 years in prison.

Earlier this month, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick threatened to withhold $175 million in U.S. aid to Nicaragua if Bolanos was impeached.
