The Encyclopædia Britannica® Deluxe Edition 2006 CD-ROM brings the authoritative Encyclopædia Britannica®, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, Atlas, Timelines, Britannica Brainstormer, and more right to your screen.
It's ideal for students, parents, professionals, or anyone who wants easy access to the best information available. No slow Internet connections, no ads, and no questionable Internet results - just get your information and get on your way.
A host of new interface enhancements include a tabbed interface, similarly seen in web browsers such as FireFox. Content opens in a new tab, which allows multiple documents of any content type to be open at once, but still allows for an uncluttered workspace.
All this makes the 2006 Deluxe Edition even easier to use and, of course, it is compatible with both Macintosh® and Windows® operating systems.

Daily Britannica Content:
The Britannica home page now contains different content displayed each day based on the computer's system clock. Usually the content has some relevance to the current date and can be explored further by following links to articles. Daily content - This Day in History.
Redesign of Article Display
Instead of breaking articles into sections, we now display the full article in one single document.
Full articles can be printed and you can do a "find" on the whole article instead of just one section at a time.
The Table Of Contents is now more user friendly. It has been moved to the upper right section of the page and can be expanded and contracted. Now, since the whole article is displayed, the TOC is used to navigate to different areas on the page instead of opening up the sections in new windows.
Citations have been added to the bottom of every article.
Interface Enhancements
Newly designed home page, which offers a more engaging design. The addition of the daily content to the home page makes it more than just a portal to the rest of the application.
The application now uses a tabbed interface, similarly seen in various web browsers such as FireFox, Opera, and Safari. Content opens in a new tab, which allows multiple documents of any content type to be open at once, however still allows for an uncluttered workspace. Users can then use the new Back and Forward buttons to navigate through previously viewed articles from within each tab.
Britannica BrainStormer:
We now offer BrainStormer Search. It is possible to go directly to a node in the BrainStormer by clicking the BrainStormer button in any EB article or by selecting the "Search In BrainStormer" item in the context menu from any EB search result.
Many improvements have been made to BrainStormer this year. The editorial content has been completely overhauled and is now properly displayed. It is now integrated into the application and will open in it's own tab instead of opening on top of the Britannica application.
World Atlas Redesigned:
Several design improvements have been made to the World Atlas to allow for easier navigation and improved performance. The Nations of the World Profile PDFs have been replaced with integrated, easier to read World Data Profile pages that no longer require Adobe Acrobat to open.
Bookmarking:
Users can now bookmark any page in the application for later use. This can be done through the Bookmark menu or via the Bookmark button that appears on every article page.
Save Function:
Virtually any page in the application can be saved as an html document. Files are saved to a dedicated Britannica folder and when viewed externally are exact copies of what is viewed from within the Britannica application. The HTML documents can then be viewed in any web browser or imported into word processing programs. Images can also be saved individually.
