Compton’s by Britannica Wins Teacher’s Choice Award
Student Encyclopedia Chosen by Educator Panels
CHICAGO, September 28, 2005 - Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. today announced that Compton’s by Britannica, the company’s student encyclopedia, has been named a winner of the Teacher’s Choice Award for 2006.
The award, given by Learning magazine, recognizes superior educational products of many kinds. Products are reviewed by groups of teachers, who examine them for quality and their contributions to learning. This year seventy teacher panels reviewed more than 430 products and chose 67 winners.
The 26-volume Compton’s by Britannica is the latest edition of Compton’s Encyclopedia, a popular reference work with students and teachers since 1922. Known for its lavish illustrations, lively style and attention to the curriculum, it has been published under Britannica’s editorial auspices for most of the past four decades.
This year’s edition was revamped inside and out. In addition to significant editorial updates and revisions, the latest Compton’s sports a striking new “spinescape” binding in which the name of the encyclopedia is emblazoned across all 26 volumes, making it visible on the shelf from a distance.
“We’re thrilled about the award,” said Anthony Green, Compton’s editor. “We know how good Compton’s is, but recognition from educators is always welcome.”
