The Payment System Division

The Payment System Division is responsible for the Riksbank’s payment system (RIX) for large-value payments in Swedish kronor and euro. The division's main objective is to ensure that the system is run in a safe, efficient manner. The payment flows in the system, which reach a volume of some 6,000 payments totalling around SEK 500 billion per day, are monitored continually during the system’s opening hours (7.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.). The division is also responsible for initiating development and administration of the system and for providing support to the system participants. Moreover, the division draws up proposals for pricing the services in the system, follows up its income and expenses, and is responsible for contacts with participants in other matters as well as for issues regarding TARGET, i.e. the ESCB-wide payment system for euro payments.
