By becoming a Member of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), you will provide direct support to the NMAI so that we can fulfill our mission to celebrate, preserve, and perpetuate the Native cultures and communities of the Western Hemisphere. As we move into the 21st century, you can do your part to help us with our vital work to ensure the NMAI is secure for the next seven generations.

Since the opening of the NMAI's museum on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on September 21, 2004, we have continued on to the next phase of our journey—to create and present innovative public programs, to provide outreach to bring the NMAI to audiences and Native communities outside Washington, D.C., and New York, to raise money for endowment so we can secure the future of the National Museum of the American Indian for generations to come, all while caring for the more than 800,000 objects that make up the collections of the NMAI. Your support as a Member of the National Museum of the American Indian will help us accomplish all this and more. Please join today.

Annual dues begin at just $20, and all NMAI Members receive an NMAI Member card valid for preferred entry to NMAI's museum on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as well as a one-year subscription to our exclusive, full-color quarterly publication, American Indian, and a 10% Members-only discount on purchases at all NMAI and Smithsonian Museum Stores, catalogues, and online stores. Additional benefits vary according to the level of support, and we invite you to choose a category of membership that represents the degree to which you wish to support the National Museum of the American Indian.

Why Join? For Preferred Member access to the museum!

Each NMAI Member receives an NMAI Member card when they join or renew their membership. Simply show your Member card anytime for preferred entry to the NMAI's museum on the National Mall. No prior reservations are needed, and you may bring up to six (6) guests with you.

As an additional Member benefit, Members may take advantage of the special Members-only line that forms each day at 9:45 a.m. for entry into the museum at 10 a.m. Simply present your valid NMAI Member card to Visitor Services, and you (and up to 6 guests) will be admitted to the museum at 10 a.m., before the general public.

Once you join, your new Member packet—which will include your official NMAI Member card—will arrive in about four to five weeks. If you joined or renewed online and plan to visit before this packet arrives, please print out the online membership acknowledgment or email confirmation message and present it to Visitor Services for preferred Member entry when you visit. If you wish to shop during your visit, you can pick up a temporary Member card at the Welcome Desk located inside the museum adjacent to our main entrance. You can expect to receive your first issue of our quarterly publication, American Indian, in approximately eight to ten weeks. American Indian magazine is generally mailed to Members during the second week of February, May, August, and November.

The Member Services department hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. Our toll-free NMAI Membership Help Line is available Monday–Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please contact:

How you can increase the size of your gift: Many companies will match their employees' contributions to the NMAI. Please inquire with your Human Resources office and submit a matching gift form with your membership donation.

The NMAI occasionally exchanges the names and addresses of its donors with other reputable organizations. By allowing us to exchange your name and address, you will be helping to encourage the support of new donors in a cost-effective manner. If you do not wish your name and address to be exchanged, please notify Member Services.
