Army: New budget could delay some units' relocation to States

A House budget bill designed to tie up loose ends for fiscal 2007 funding could delay plans to move some troops stationed overseas back to the U.S., Army officials said. But Democrats downplayed those concerns, saying the military will have plenty of funding for long-range basing plans.

No more welcome-home parties in cash-strapped USAREUR

In response to continuing financial strains, U.S. Army Europe has canceled all welcome home celebrations for units returning from deployment through this fiscal year, halting the tradition of free food, rides and other community festivities for returning soldiers and their families.


Hongdae district is placed off-limits to SOFA personnel at night
USFK commander Gen. B.B. Bell has placed the Hongdae party district off limits to his personnel at night. The action keeps all troops and civilians — including family members, civilian employees and contractors — from the area from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily beginning Wednesday night.

A day after police raided a dozen addresses and arrested nine people in Birmingham — about 125 miles from RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall — Air Force officials said local units had issued no orders or warnings to U.K.-based airmen specifically related to the arrests.
New air passenger tax could be issue for fliers
While the rate hike may be just a bump in the vague list of airport taxes on a traveler's tickets from Thursday onward, the tax also retroactively applies to tickets already purchased — even months ago. That could create a potential sticking point for travelers who might think they are immune from the new tax.


Gas prices decline under AAFES' new formula

Gas prices at Army and Air Force Exchange Service pumps fell more than a dime a gallon Thursday throughout the Pacific, with the exception of unleaded gas in Japan, which remained unchanged.
