The design competition for the collector coin ”A.E. Nordenskiöld and the North-East Passage” has reached a conclusion: Reijo Paavilainen’s design Arktinen labyrintti” (Arctic labyrinth) was selected as best proposal (8.1.2007)
The Collector Coin Committee set by the Finnish Ministry of Finance arranged a public competition for the design of the collector coin “A.E. Nordenskiöld and the North-East Passage”. A total of 24 proposals were received by the deadline of 13th December, 2006. Among these the jury selected the design named “Arktinen labyrintti” (Arctic labyrinth) as the best proposal. The creator of the winning proposal turned out to be sculptor Reijo Paavilainen. The committee considered the design to be well-defined, personal, and a strong entity. The proposal is a good description of the person as well as the journey.
