CIDCM Explores Impact of Fragility on NGO Networks

With funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development, CIDCM is currently looking at such features of fragile states as weakened government legitimacy, reduced government responsiveness, heightened insecurity, and economic instability to determine their impact on the effectiveness of NGO networks. The goal of this research is to provide policy recommendations that allow more effective support to be provided to NGO networks in fragile environments--support that can counteract the delerious effects that fragile environments are having on the functioning of these networks. The research conclusions will be based on a survey of NGOs that are part of the national networks in the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP). Surveys are being conducted in Nigeria, Senegal Cote d'Ivoire, and Liberia.
