NGO Networks Project

CIDCM researchers are undertaking a USAID-funded research project entitled, "The Impact of Fragile Environments on NGO Networks: A Comparative Analysis of Four West African Countries." The project's goal is to learn more about how NGO networks are affected by features of fragile environments such as outbreaks of armed conflict, governmental crises, or dislocated populations. Toward this end, CIDCM will be surveying members of peacebuilding networks in Nigeria, Senegal, Liberia, and Côte d'Ivorie.

Through the survey and associated research, CIDCM will gain insight into the precise aspects of fragility that affect the elements of networks. As a result, it will be possible to more effectively target attention and resources for building (or re-building) and strengthening networks in fragile states.

As of September 2006, the survey is being conducted in Liberia and Nigeria. Surveys in Senegal and Côte d'Ivorie will follow. Results of the research will be disseminated in Spring 2007.

The research is funded by PVC-AHSA, USAID. The principal investigators on the project are Dr. Andrew Blum and Dr. Joseph Hewitt.
