[ The Undergraduate Residential Experience ]

Go to Res Life to find answers to the most frequently asked questions about living on the Ohio Wesleyan campus.

Six residence halls -- Bashford, Hayes, Smith, Stuyvesant, Thomson, and Welch -- are clustered on the residential (west) end of campus. Most are co-ed by floor or suite. Hayes Hall is a residence for women only, and Smith Hall's west wing is substance-free. Students live in single rooms, double rooms, or suites. There are study rooms on each floor of most residence halls, as well as a computer lab, recreation rooms, meeting rooms, and a kitchen. As OWU's Honors Hall, Welch Hall is called the Living and Learning Center, with special leadership opportunities and a 24-hour quiet policy.

Click on a link below to get more information, including room floorplans, for OWU's residence halls:

Bashford Hall and Thomson Hall
» 2-person rooms (coed by floor)
Hayes Hall » 4-person rooms (all-women)
Smith Hall » 4-person rooms (coed by suite, substance-free west wing)
Stuyvesant Hall » 2-person rooms (coed by suite)
Welch Hall » 4-person rooms (coed by suite, Honors » must fill out separate housing application and have earned at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA)

Small Living Units (SLUs)
offer unique living opportunities to groups of 10-15 OWU students. In these theme houses, students create a small community centered on promoting specific interests and concerns. Housing assignments in the SLUs, however, are not available to first-year students, as these programs will have already selected their membership from the current student body. This year's nine SLUs are: The Creative Arts House, The House of Black Culture, The House of HOPE (education), The House of Peace and Justice, The House of Thought, The International House, The Modern Foreign Languages House, The Tree House (environmentalism), and The Women's House.

In Austin Manor, upperclass students have an opportunity to experience intergenerational living. Students live independently in their own apartments; older residents include OWU alumni and retired faculty. As with the SLUs, housing assignments in Austin Manor are not available to first-year students.

Ohio Wesleyan's nine national fraternity chapters offer residence to active upperclass fraternity members. The University's five sororities have non-residential houses for social gatherings and events. Again, housing assignments in the fraternities are not available to first-year students.
