RealVideo Best Overall Codec
In a recent review of video codecs, Streaming Media Magazine picked RealVideo as the best overall. The judging included 42 scenes varying in action and content. These scenes were encoded for five playback scenarios: 56 Kbps modems, 3GPP cell phones, 100 Kbps and 300 Kbps LAN, and 500 Kbps broadband. The encoded files were judged on quality, playback smoothness, color, and the lack of motion artifacts. By one measure, Real won the 500 Kbps business video category by 39% over the Flash VP6 codec. The final analysis from Streaming Media: "The overall best codec was RealNetworks’ RealVideo."
