Georgetown University announced that Rocco DelMonaco, Jr. has been appointed Vice President for University Safety.  As Vice President for University Safety, DelMonaco will be responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of all safety and security functions and programs at the main campus, medical and law centers, and overseas locations.

"Rocco has demonstrated his ability to successfully manage complex security issues on a large scale throughout his career," said Spiros Dimolitsas, Georgetown's Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer. "Although the events of the past few years prove that we must be prepared to address once unforeseen challenges, I am confident that Rocco's experience will help us to build on our efforts and enhance our ongoing commitment to the safety and security of our campus community."

DelMonaco will report to Georgetown's Senior Vice President and oversee planning and response efforts for various kinds of emergency situations.  His duties include organizing and implementing Georgetown's crisis management process.  He will oversee public safety, environmental health and safety, community risk assessment, life and safety preparedness, disaster planning, and employee travel and safety programs.  In addition, he will be Georgetown's primary liaison coordinating with federal, state and local emergency services and law enforcement agencies.

"I look forward to building upon the extensive efforts that Georgetown has taken related to safety and security and am eager to work in partnership with University students, faculty and staff  to enhance the needs of the campus community," said DelMonaco.

DelMonaco comes to Georgetown with more than 30 years of operational and managerial experience in domestic and international law enforcement, intelligence, counter terrorism, protection and risk management.   Most recently DelMonaco served as an independent consultant and senior executive with  ManTech SMA, a large government contractor for law enforcement, counter terrorist training and homeland security issues.  Prior to joining ManTech he served at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where he oversaw the integration of threat monitoring and strategic responses by DHS and other Federal agencies and served as Special Agent in Charge of the liaison division of the Federal Air Marshal Service.

He also held a variety of responsibilities during more than 20 years as a special agent in the U.S. Secret Service, where, among other things, he supervised the White House Joint Operations Center coordinating protective operations to protect the President and White House complex, led the Counter Assault Team at specially designated national security events including the 1999 World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle and the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, and served as an instructor for new agents.  He also has extensive experience handling criminal investigations.

DelMonaco began his career as a police officer with the Miami-Dade County, FL school system and in the communities of Hollywood, FL and Santa Monica, CA.  He holds a Masters of Public Administration from Pepperdine University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami, which he attended on a U.S. Air Force ROTC scholarship.  He also served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force.

DelMonaco has received numerous awards over the course of his career and is affiliated with several national associations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Fraternal Order of Police, National Tactical Officers Association and Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.
