Hoya Saxa!

Welcome to Georgetown. If you are new to our community or are returning to remember your years on the Hilltop, he hope that this website will serve as the home for documenting the rich history and tradition of Georgetown. We will continue to add content to this site, so please visit often.

Traditions Day

The fifth annual Georgetown Traditions Day will be held Thursday, November 2, 2006. The Georgetown community will come together to celebrate 217 years of rich history on The Hilltop with tours, competitions, and displays on the University's main campus.

Traditions Day was started in 2002 to highlight the rich elements of our identity and tradition. With so many exciting events it's impossible for one person to know everything about Georgetown's history. In fact, you may not be aware that:

  • Healy Hall was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
  • The Tombs was established as an eating club in 1962 by Richard McCooey (COL'52).
  • The University experienced severe housing shortages in 1943-44 in which buildings that normally housed 600 students were occupied by nearly 1500.

We hope that this Web site will serve as a resource for documenting the history and tradition of the Hilltop. We will continue to add content to this site, so please visit often.
