Extended period for redeeming old banknotes

The Riksbank has decided to extend the period of redeeming the older, and currently invalid, versions of the 500-krona and 100-krona notes without foil strips and the slightly larger 20-krona banknotes with a bluer tone.

 

This means that you can redeem the banknotes at your bank or at Svensk Kassaservice up to and including 31 December 2007. Any fees for redeeming the banknotes are set by the respective bank or by Svensk Kassaservice.

The banknotes were introduced on 15 March 2006

New and safer versions of the 50-krona and 1,000-krona banknotes were introduced on 15 March 2006 The new banknotes have largely the same appearance as the older versions, but also have several new security features making them more difficult to counterfeit.

 

What happens to the older 50-krona and 1,000-krona banknotes?

The older versions will continue to apply and no decision has yet been taken on when they will be withdrawn.

The Riksbank is issuing two commemorative coins in May 2007 to mark the 300th anniversary of Carl von Linné’s birth. The commemorative coins are issued in gold, with the denomination SEK 2,000-and in silver with the denomination SEK 200.
