HOYAS UNLIMITED
Parents & Friends

Established in 1970, Hoyas Unlimited is an umbrella organization consisting of distinct volunteer clubs which support one or more of Georgetown's 27 intercollegiate athletic programs. Your donations to support clubs through Hoyas Unlimited provide direct support to each program. Hoyas Unlimited also has a general fund that supports all of the programs to which donations may be specified. In addition to providing financial support for its sport of interest, each club also produces newsletters and e-newsletters to keep its constituents informed, and sponsors social events to promote fellowship among its members. For more information about Hoyas Unlimited, please visit the Hoyas Unlimited Web site.

What is a Hoya?

Many years ago, when Georgetown University students were required to study Greek and Latin, the university's teams were nicknamed "The Stonewalls." It is suggested that a student, using Greek and Latin terms, started the cheer "Hoya Saxa!", which means "What Rocks!" The phrase proved popular, and the name "Hoyas" was eventually adopted for all Georgetown teams.
