Communications Secretariat

Openness and clarity in external communications is a central element of the work in creating confidence in the Riksbank’s activities – maintaining price stability and promoting a safe and efficient payment system. This enables Swedish citizens to evaluate the Riksbank’s work.

The Communications Secretariat’s task is to ensure that this openness functions in the Riksbank’s daily work – that the Riksbank's communications are clear and easily understood. This includes providing journalists with the service they require, preparing Riksbank employees when they are to hold speeches or take part in press conferences and helping to ensure that speeches, press releases and other publications are written in a clear and easily understood manner. The Secretariat also works on openness within the Bank. It is important to provide all employees with good information about the bank’s activities. We must have clarity within the Riksbank in order to have clarity in our external communications.

The work on external communications is carried out within the framework of our communications strategy and of the communications plan adopted by the Executive Board every year. There are guidelines for internal communications and there is a mass media policy covering relations with the media.

The Secretariat has 17 employees divided into three groups; press service, public relations officers and information services. The press service is responsible for contacts with the media, the public relations officers work with both internal and external communications and the information services group offers, for instance, library services. Pernilla Meyersson is head of the secretariat and also the Riksbank's Director of Communications and currently acting Chief Press Officer.
