MS Society Scotland

The MS Society Scotland is part of the UK's largest charity for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The Society exists in order to enable everyone affected by multiple sclerosis to live life to their full potential until we find a cure.

MS is the commonest disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. It is most commonly diagnosed between 20 and 40. In MS, nerve cells in the brain and spine are damaged by the immune system, leading to vary varied symptoms, which tend to get worse over time. MS affects different people very differently in terms of symptoms and progression over time.

Scotland has the highest prevalence of MS in the world - 1 in 500 which is about 10,500 people with MS.

The Society funds research into the causes and treatment of MS, runs a respite care centre and self-catering holiday accommodation; provides grants for individuals with MS; supports education and training on MS. It produces numerous publications on MS and provides a freephone telephone support line.

The MS Society is committed to bringing high standards of quality health and social care within reach of everyone affected by MS. It provides a strong campaigning voice on issues of concern to people affected by MS.

The Society has a network of over 30 branches in Scotland, with a National Office near Edinburgh.
