Georgetown Featured in Best Colleges Guide

Students who come to Georgetown University find "it's impossible to separate the virtues of a Georgetown education with the opportunities afforded by the school's Washington, D.C., location," according to the Princeton Review's 2008 guide to the "Best 366 Colleges."

In the new annual guide, Georgetown is praised for its "out of this world" internship opportunities and the chance to take classes with world-renowned scholars, politicians and diplomats.

Georgetown scored a 94 out of 100 possible points in the academic rating, and a 99 in selectivity of admissions. The university ranks 13th of schools in a "great college town," and 18th in both most politically active students and the toughest schools to get into.

Only about 15 percent of U.S. colleges and universities are featured in the guide. Information is drawn from students surveyed about their Georgetown experience in an 80-question assessment of university academics, student life and opportunities.

Student comments include describing the university as "a unique combination of true academic commitment, social and political awareness, rich tradition, a diverse student body and all the crazy fun of college."

Survey comments also noted Georgetown's proximity to cultural venues such as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, museums and national monuments. The Princeton Review guide also highlighted work and social opportunities both on- and off-campus for students.
