| Champions League's Final Round Could Be A Stunner! |

THE final round of the CAF Champions League august 31-September 2 could prove a stunner as five teams, including Libya’s representatives, Al-Ittihad vie for the remaining three places still to be filled in the semi-finals. Al-Ittihad’s 1-3 away defeat against JS Kabylie has revived the Algerians’ hopes in Group A, while any two from Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal and ASEC are all still in contention for a semi-final berth from Group B.

In Group B in Omdurman, Sudan’s Al Hilal handed Cham-pions League holders Al Ahli of Egypt their heaviest defeat (3-0) in the competition for 30 years and swept to the top. It is also their second successive defeat in the group.

LIBYA’s representatives in the Champions League, Al-Ittihad suffered a setback in their quest to reach the semi-finals of the competition when Friday they were beaten 3-1 by JS Kabylie in Algiers after managing to score first. Al Ittihad had coach Branko Smiljanic back on the bench after a one-match ban.

English football reigning champions Manchester United lost England striker Wayne Rooney to a hairline fracture of his left foot as they started a defence of their title with a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford against Reading. It's an injury that could keep the England striker out of action for three months.

Chelsea began the 2007/2008 Premiership season with a hard-earned victory at Stamford Bridge where they beat newly promoted Birmingham City 3-2 after going behind to a goal by their former striker Mikael Forsell after 15 minutes. Ina another game, Chelsea play Birmingham were drawing 2-2 at half time at Stamford Bridge, while later defending champions Manchester United host Reading at Old Trafford.

The gentlemen’s game of rugby seems set to take off across Libya with the arrival of the Tripoli Rugby Football Clubs’ Management team to the newly established Benghazi Hillal Rugby Football Club. On August 4, the Tripoli team player, coach and committee head, Tarek Benrewin along with team captain Abdul Kaream, visited Benghazi Hillal RFC for a training clinic.

Libya's Al-Ahli club of Tripoli who finished runners up in the 2006/07 Football Championship are giving notice that they will fight very hard to regain the league title this coming season. As such they have appointed a Ukrainian, Sebastien Youré as their new coach.
