Opinion: The China Syndrome By Dr. Mustafa Fetouri |
I must admit that I admire China’s strive and determination to claim its long over- due place as a world economic power. The country has come a long way to be what it is today, and the world has to live with that. However, manufacturing in China seems to be not enjoying the best of times and it is negatively affecting the country’s reputation.

Opinion: The extended family (Part Two) By Zainab Al-Arabi |
The rule of the Ottoman Turks in Libya (1553-1912) was centralised in Tripoli, where the ruling dynasty was preoccupied with its own internal political intrigue, and filling its coffers from maritime commerce and the slave trade. The rest of the country - the three provinces of Tripolitania, Cyrenaica, and Fezzan - were left to the mercy of Turkish ‘pashas’ who acted as overseers, taxation officials, and judges.

Opinion: The Extended Family Part I By Zainab Al-Arabi |
Being part of a very large extended family in Libya (as most Libyans are) can either be an incredibly wonderful life experience, or it can be an extremely suffocating one. It depends on one’s character, personality and individuality. Often, somehow, even life-long neighbours and friends mysteriously become part of the extended family.

Opinion: On the Sidelines - By Zainab Al-Arabi |
Tripoli is being described these days in the local media as a ‘large workshop’. Evidence of this is seen everywhere in the construction and repairs going on. Plans to improve infrastructure, roads, and buildings, are also being announced frequently in various cities and towns. Even in the extremely underdeveloped, remote area where I reside at present, these projects’ reach is felt as far as electricity and public housing go.

Opinion: When the End is a Beginning By Zainab Al-Arabi |
Last week’s press conference held by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and the Secretary of the General People’s Congress, was a sign of the changing currents in Libya. It may be only a small one, but nonetheless welcome.

Opinion: Who Has Created All the Problems of Yesterday and Today in the Arab World? By Ahmed M. Ashiurakis |
There is no doubt at all that the Arabs, whose pride and entity have been trodden and stabbed in the back by the oppressive vagrant people-the Zionists, will never, never forget that they have been properly misled and openly betrayed by the Allies, particularly the English government, whose promises given during the First World War to the Arabs had been false.

Opinion: Innocent, Though Proven Guilty By: Zainab Al-Arabi |

International networks’ news anchors announced it with beaming smiles, as if they were welcoming the homecoming of their own family members: full pardon granted by the Bulgarian President to the five Bulgarian nurses and one Palestinian doctor (who has since been granted Bulgarian citizenship).

Opinion: Lessons From The Longest Trial in Libya’s History! By: Dr. Mustafa Fetouri |
Now that, the case of the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor convicted of deliberately injecting hundreds of Libyan children with the AIDS causing virus, came to close, it is worth looking at from different angles.

Opinion: The Language Factor - by Zainab Al-Arabi |
Languages are the portals to different cultures, and the more an individual understands the language of any people, the more insight he/she gains into their culture. Learning a foreign language shouldn’t be an overwhelmingly academic task.

Opinion: What Happened at the African Union Summit in Accra By: Akbar Muhammed |
To sit and listen to Leaders who refuse to give Qaddafi the recognition that he justly deserves, using the excuse that he wants to be the first president of a United Africa or the fact that he is a Muslim and Arab trying to dominate Africa, only opens the door further to the enemies of Africa who see the unity of Africa as a threat to their inordinate influence over African affairs.

Opinion: The Bizarre Politics of International Justice: We should be Very Careful! By: Zainab Al-arabi |
International politics could be a generous source of amusement and comedy, if it wasn’t for the fact that politics, more often than not, have a very sad effect on people’s lives.

Opinion: For the Power and Glory of Africa |
The suffering humanity today sorely needs an alternative to statism. The African continent even moreso. That is why, African leaders at this year’s AU summit due to be held in Accra, Ghana in July should not miss the opportunity to dismantle the artificial barriers imposed on the continent by the colonialist, and put in their place an African Union Government, which millions of Africans are yearning for.

The Heat is On! By: Zainab Al-Arabi |
This year’s summer is apparently going to be a very long and blazing one. While we wait with bated breath for the cooling down of violence and politics in Iraq, Palestine, Somalia, and everywhere in the Arab world it seems, all our attention is on the weather now. All we can do is hope that each day brings cooler breezes for us in Libya.
