Sweden's GDP rose by 3.5 percent during the second quarter, calendar-adjusted and compared to the second quarter of 2006.

Large surplus for municipalities despite higher costs
According to the profit and loss statement, net costs for municipalities amounted to SEK 343.3 billion in 2006. This figure is SEK 15.1 billion more than in 2005. The profit and loss statement for municipalities showed a surplus of SEK 13.3 billion before extraordinary items, an increase of SEK 4.3 billion compared to 2005.

Fewer moose slain
The season for hunting moose in Sweden is underway. The number of moose slain has decreased in the past three years. Last year, 82 370 moose were slain. At the beginning of the 1980s, this figure was twice as high.

Industry spends one billion less on environmental protection expenditure
In 2006 Swedish industry spent nearly SEK one billion less for environmental protection expenditure compared to 2005. In other words, expenditure in 2006 was down 9 percent compared to the previous year. Total environmental protection expenditure amounted to roughly SEK 8.6 billion in 2006, of which investments accounted for SEK 3 billion while current expenditure amounted to SEK 5.6 billion.
