The United States Capitol Police screened 104,684 visitors who viewed former President Reagan in the Capitol Rotunda. This figure does not include 1,324 visitors admitted onto the West Front south lawn to observe the departure of former President Reagan. During most of the event, the waiting time for public to enter the Capitol was approximately 3 hours. The longest documented waiting times were approximately 6 hours in duration; however, these instances were rare. Capitol Police issued 16,610 claim tickets for personal items, returning all but 10 items. Over 35,000 items such as backpacks, chairs, strollers, coolers, etc., were hand-carried from the pre-screening area to the area where the public exited. Over 200,000 bottles of water were distributed during the event. While these figures were within the initial estimates, they do not reflect the tens of thousands of individuals who lined the streets throughout Capitol Hill and Washington, D.C., to observe the procession.

Although this was a somber and event, occurring during extreme weather conditions, the public was extremely patient and understanding toward one another and with law enforcement personnel.
