Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)In partnership with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), this pilot project makes library services more accessible for the blind and visually impaired residents of the Town of Markham. Through an electronic link established between the Markham Public Libraries and the CNIB Library, the public library staff can search the CNIB Library's online catalogue and reserve materials for registered CNIB customers. Launched on May 22, 1997, this new service is part of the Markham Public Libraries’ long-standing commitment to provide opportunity for equitable access to library resources for all residents of the Town of Markham. For more information regarding this service, please contact your local Library. Delivery to the Home-bound ServiceLibrary volunteers take large print and audiocassette materials to residential senior citizens across the Town of Markham. For more information regarding this service, please contact your local Library. Interlibrary LoanThe Interlibrary Loan service offers customers the opportunity to request materials from other libraries. If the Library does not have the book you want, staff can search a provincial database of millions of titles for you. The length of time it takes to obtain your requested title can range from 3 to 6 weeks or longer, depending on the Library which owns the book. For more information regarding this service, please contact your local Library. Internet Access plus Electronic DatabasesYou can search for information on the Internet and access the following online databases remotely at home and at the branches of the Markham Public Libraries. Check out our Adult Internet Links page to connect electronically to recommended web sites that support educational and recreational interests.
LunauwebLunauweb is a digital database of images and documents relating to the history of Markham. The collection includes the papers of John Lunau, the late local historian and founder of the Markham Museum. Also included are the papers of two other local historians, Vera Taylor and Anne Armstrong and the records of the Unionville Historical Society. Lunauweb can be accessed on designated computer workstations at all MPL branches during library open hours.
