URBAN LOFT LIVING COMES TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON - 2009

The Division of Student Affairs announces the newest addition to on campus living – Calhoun Lofts. Opening fall 2009, the 984-bed Calhoun Lofts project will begin an exciting phase of urban campus living by bringing the best of city living on campus. Calhoun Lofts will have a variety of choices including efficiencies, one-bedroom and two-bedroom loft units, many with panoramic views of the city skyline. Conveniently located at Entrance 19, in close proximity to the Bauer College of Business, the Cullen College of Engineering, the UH Law Center, the College of Architecture and the College of Optometry, The Calhoun Lofts will be the first project dedicated to graduate and professional students at the University of Houston.

As part of the effort to continue to increase campus life, this mixed use project will have both living space and retail space designed for the multiple needs of active UH students. Some of the amenities included in Calhoun Lofts will be: a theater room; community room; fitness center; floor laundries; coffee bar; catering kitchen; and study rooms.

In addition, Calhoun Lofts will have two courtyards: one with privacy for students living within the area and one for all UH students utilizing the retail areas. The courtyards and surrounding landscape will maintain the feel of green space associated with the University of Houston.

The building phase of the Calhoun Lofts project will start in August 2007. Many hours of preparation have preceded this phase and have included participation from multiple groups of students, faculty and staff. The Division of Student Affairs extends continued thanks to all who have or will be a part of this project.
