CareFirst Establishes Weekly Market Day

In an effort to help Eastern Market businesses recover from the April 30 fire that destroyed the South Hall, CareFirst, a division of Blue Cross Blue Shield, has invited several vendors to set up shop in their office once a week and sell their crafts in an event called “Market Day.”

Kristin Kimber, widow of miner Brandon Kimber, sits behind photos of her family and late husband at last week’s House Education and Labor Committee hearing on mine safety. Brandon Kimber was one of six miners who died following a collapse at Crandall Canyon Mine in Utah in August. Family members of the miners, as well as those of the three rescue workers who died trying to save the miners, testified at last week’s hearing.
