Statistics Sweden (SCB) is one of the oldest as well as one of the most modern national statistical offices in the world. Statistics Sweden works in the front line in development, production and dissemination of statistics to supply users with high quality statistics.

International Consulting Office
Through its International Consulting Office (ICO), Statistics Sweden offers technical assistance through transfer of know-how to the development of statistical capacity in other countries worldwide outside the EU. The ICO has almost 25 years of experience of international consulting where Statistics Sweden’s staff members provide technical assistance within their respective fields of expertise.

ICO is currently running projects in about 30 countries worldwide. The yearly turnover is about US$ 11 million  (SEK 80 million) and has increased considerably during the last two years.

Statistical Capacity Building
The support to statistical capacity building may stretch from a few weeks to several years, and covers a wide range of subject matter areas such as population and housing censuses, other socio-demographic statistics, prices and other economic statistics, national accounts, gender and environmental statistics. Recent new areas are the monitoring of poverty reduction policies and training of planners and policy-makers in the use and interpretation of statistics. Support to development of statistical infrastructure like planning, management, IT, quality issues, dissemination and user relations is also provided.
