Bill's Top 40 / Pop BlogWill 'Gossip Girl' Shake Up the Pop Music World?Alexandra Patsavas may not be a household name, but her work is extremely familiar in many households. As the person behind selection of music for Grey's Anatomy and The O.C., she helped bring artist after artist to the attention of music fans. Now she is putting together the music for Gossip Girl, a new show on the CW based on a popular series of books for teenagers. The show will try to do for mainstream pop music what The O.C. did for indie pop and Grey's Anatomy has done for adult-oriented pop. Current advertising for Gossip Girl features music by Fergie and Aqualung. The debut episode will include songs by Rihanna, Amy Winehouse, Angels & Airwaves, Hanson, and the Mooney Suzuki. Patsavas says "I'm relying on old favorites while exploring current pop music. And since the show revolves primarily around high school students in New York, we'll definitely be using some New York-based bands. But these kids listen to the radio, too." The show begins Wednesday, September 19 at 9 p.m. ET. Read more details on the show Gossip Girl.
