WASHINGTON (CNN) — John McCain and Hillary Clinton both picked up primary endorsements from New Hampshire’s Concord Monitor this weekend.

“Earlier in the campaign, when McCain was being counted out, a consultant might have urged a makeover: Lose the moral compass on torture and immigration, ditch the vision for a turnaround in Iraq,” the paper said in a Saturday editorial.

“Not a chance. John McCain held on to his principles and defended them with dignity. New Hampshire residents who vote in the Republican primary should reward that integrity with their votes.”

The Arizona senator has gotten similar nods from almost two dozen Granite State papers. Earlier this week, the Monitor took aim at his chief Republican rival in the state, Mitt Romney, giving the former Massachusetts governor a rare “anti-endorsement.” The two men are just a few points apart in most recent Granite State polls.

The Monitor’s editorial board said Hillary Clinton got their backing because her “unique combination of smarts, experience and toughness makes her the best choice to win the November election and truly get things done.”

“Clinton's ambitious to-do list for her first few weeks in office gives us confidence that her priorities are right and that she would act swiftly to make a positive difference,” the board wrote in an excerpt of its Sunday editorial posted on the paper’s Web site Saturday.

But the board also praised her Democratic rivals, noting “Joe Biden's pragmatic foreign policy” and “John Edwards's insistence that we pay attention to the poorest Americans.”

Barack Obama, who is statistically tied with Clinton in most recent New Hampshire polls, earned high marks from the board. Obama, “more than most, has the power to inspire. The positive tone of his campaign is not a gimmick. He is a serious candidate with sober ideas. For reasons symbolic and substantive, he would also be a nominee Democrats could feel proud to vote for,” they wrote.

New Hampshire’s voters head to the polls January 8.

Yes, Hillary has the smarts, the experience, and the toughness that we need from a president. Her kind of leadership inspires me to vote for her.

Sue Whtie   December 29, 2007 8:04 pm ET

She brings everything we need to the table.
Brains, reason, a sense of purpose, and understanding of reality.
She is ready Day 1 to take on the mess left behind by G.W. and party.
Strong, smart, intuitive…Wise woman…
The time has come for Hilary Clinton, and I will proudly vote for her.

HILLARY AND HER HUSBAND AND FORMER PRESIDENT BILL ARE MOST LIKELY THE TWO SMARTEST PEOPLE TO OCCUPY THE WHITE HOUSE. FOR THAT REASON AMOUNG MANY OTHERS I WILL VOTE FOR HER AS OFTEN AS I CAN AND SO SHOULD ALL PEOPLE WHO SEEK EXPERIENCE IN THEIR LEADERS. I KNOW THAT BILL WILL NOT HOLD OFFICE BUT HERE YOU ARE GETTING TWO FOR ONE..VOTE HILLARY….THANK YOU.

Virginia, Discovery Bay, Ca   December 29, 2007 8:27 pm ET

I could not improve on what Judy Hill and Sue White wrote. I will simply lend my voice to theirs in supporting Hillary Clinton, the best of the bunch. I , too, will proudly cast my vote for her.

Of course this was expected: a 3rd class Democrat's newspaper would endorse John McCain, as the Clinton's clan would have a hay day with the has been Republican's candidate. What a gift !

Yippee Yye Yeay!!!

Hillary '08!

Mati   December 29, 2007 8:32 pm ET

These two are both serious candidates. Even if I support Hillary, I have to admit McCain is someone to respect.

And honestly, I would trust McCain more than Obama for instance if Democrats will be so crazy to nominate him.

The Monitor is a liberal newspaper who endorses McCain because Hillary will beat him.

Vote Romney if you want a Republican in the White House, and not another Clinton.

Go Mitt '08!!!

Scott, Des Moines, Iowa   December 29, 2007 8:54 pm ET

Great choice, very well reasoned. Both are true serious leaders want to change and lead this country. THANK YOU !

Jaime Scottsdale,AZ   December 29, 2007 9:26 pm ET

Truely a fair, balanced, and factual endorsement highlighting the enormous talents of each canidate in the race. It is time to bring this all together with experience and leadership that our NATION needs NOW. I have watched all the debates, visited all of the websites, and read through phethoric views and comments. Hillary Clinton will and has my support in 2008. Congrats Senator Clinton once again. One last suggestion: anyone that did not see the first Democratic YouTube Debate, take a look or view it again. How things have changed since June!

Hillary Clinton for president? Are you kidding me? She has no experience of any sorts running anything of importance, let alone a country! All she wants to do is steal from the rich and give to the poor. She is a true socialist.

Hillary Clinton is the Hugo Chavez of America. She'd destroy our free market economy and have all of us depending on government handouts. Those handouts don't last very long. Have any of you Hillary Clinton supporters studied the failure of the Soviety Union's economy? What about our prosperous friends to the south in Cuba?

We as a nation are prosperous because of our free market economy. Hillary Clinton, the Robin Hood for the poor people, will surely be our ruin.

fidelis   December 29, 2007 10:23 pm ET

Hillary is simply the best that America can be proud of right now. She is smart and very confident of the direction she wants to lead us. I pray daily that she wins it all.

K. A. Noone   December 29, 2007 10:26 pm ET

Hillary is simply too devisive to defeat any Republican candiadate. Sorry folks but that's the truth.

We need a healer in this broken world. All the smart people voting for Hillary should swith to Obama.

Obama is fresh and won't return us to the days of scandals and impeachments. It wasn't all rosy with Bill Clinton even though on balance we agree he was okay.

If we fail to vote Obama now, it will be the biggest mistake of our lifetimes.

God bless you all!

OBAMA '08!!!

caforjoe   December 29, 2007 10:46 pm ET

I love it when people say Hillary is ready on Day 1 for President. Not only is it not true, but she stole the line from Joe Biden.

Regardless of Hillary's experience or lack thereof, she's too polarizing and divisive. I don't want a repeat of the Clinton years, either, with all their distractions and scandals.

I'm voting for Joe Biden, because he actually can start on day 1–he's been talking about Pakistan and talking with Musharraf and Bhutto for a while now. All Hillary can say is that she knew her. Ugh.

I'm not sure what these editors were thinking.

Jaime Scottsdale,AZ   December 29, 2007 10:56 pm ET

I can't let this comment from "Roger" (sounds like R=Republican, O=Out of Touch,G=Grasping at fear, E=Equally on Wall Street, and R=Ridiculous) go without a response. Now we are bring up Fidel Castro! Really?!? BTW, the "Soviety Union" wherever that is, was put aside during Reagan/Bush, part 1…remembering now? And last I heard, Hugo was gone too. If your point is to draw a comparison for everyone to understand, make it revelant to present times. Wake up and smell the coffee…somewhere in Cuba or Venezula?!? One last thing…it is one thing to throw mindless mud at Hillary, but it is another to bring Robin Hood into this.

You guys need to think three times before you put Obama in there. What does he know…he lacks foreign experience, not as smart as Hillary! He just talks…we don't need somebody who just talks but know-how. He needs to wait and try again for the next 8 years…this country has so much to be done to give somebody who wants to do ' a white House internship'. He won't survive the Republican attack machine. If there is anyone on the Democratic party as the best candidate, its Hillary Rodham Clinton. Democrates don't be crazy to nominee Obama! Wake up!!

Christopher Hamilton   December 30, 2007 1:13 am ET

Could someone please tell me what real experience Hillary Clinton has? Everyone talks about her experience, but what is it? First lady? Sorry, doesn't count. Political machinist? Um, hello, her health care fiasco in the 90's? As far as I can tell, she's been a lawyer, a first lady, and now a Senator. Since the middle one doesn't count (and here I'm being generous since her healthcare experience could theoretically count as a negative against her) she's got the same experience base as Obama. Oh, wait, Obama was in public office longer than Hillary, so (to be fair) it seems to me that Obama has more successful political experience than Senator Clinton.

But my main point is this. We're a divided nation, deeply, DEEPLY divided. One good push, and we're into secession and civil war territory. The world needs America at her best, not at her most divided. Hillary Clinton (and the cadre of Democratic warriors she will bring with her) are NOT INTERESTED IN UNITY. They are interested in payback. Yes, the Bush White House is a cesspool, and yes, there are a LOT of things to clean up after The Shrub leaves office. But Hillary in '08 means four more years of viciousness, division, and a fractured America.

Obama is the rejection of all that, creating instead the paradigm of smart, tough, but balanced judgment that brings in people from every political persuation. Not because their Democrat or Republican or Independent, but because we're all American, and the ideas are strong, and our will is united. And the world in the 21st century NEEDS a united United States.

Vote Obama in 2008. And once he's in, America, the land of the free, the home of the brave, the guardian of justice, and the hope of the world…will be back in business.

Connie, Richmond, CA   December 30, 2007 1:19 am ET

I am 53 years old and will do something that I have never done in my life if Hillary wins the nomination: I will stay at home.

When the race began, I thought that even though I supported Obama, I would support Hillary if she won. But after I've seen her racists attacks against Obama, via her "advisors," I would not vote for her under any circumstances. Let the chips fall where they may, because if Obama is not the next president, nothing is going to change anyway.

This newspaper is endorsing her because they haven't got the guts to endorse the best candidate: Obama.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

As Hillary Clinton said, "It's time to pick a President."

That may be a rallying cry to the Washington establishment and the media establishment that endorses the candidate most likely to line their pockets, but it is old news to anyone familiar with Barack Obama.

I picked Barack Obama in 2004 and I haven't gotten him out of my head since. He's in the same league as JFK, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. All those mentioned were newcomers, outside the system, with little "national experience" and a great deal of wisdom, charisma, vision, and the wit and will to use it at the most appropo time in history.

They were at the nexus, and they took the reigns.

If you had the opportunity to work on Abraham Lincoln's campaign, would you?

That's precisely how I feel about helping get Barack Obama elected.

I'm weary of writing about it. I'm going out to do it. Really, its in the hands of those in Iowa now.

Don't let us down Iowa. Don't be known as the State that could have voted for Abraham Lincoln… but didn't.

Frankly, I know they'll do right. They'll elect a true leader in Obama.

Notice how Joe Biden is now getting mentioned alongside Edwards, Obama, and Hillary. There's a marked change in the air about his campaign. I will be supporting Biden. It's a shame he did not get the endorsement because he, above others, deserved it.

Obama's my second choice because I believe Hillary has honesty and resume inflation issues, and Edwards is a phony slime.

Margaret   December 30, 2007 4:50 am ET

Ms Clinton may be electible. Some women will vote for her just because she's a woman. Some democrats will vote for her just because she's a democrat. Some others will vote for her because they think they are really voting for her husband. But after the election, if she should happen to win, what will happen to this country? Nothing. We will continue to be at a stalemate in Washington because Ms. Clinton doesn't know how to work with both sides of the isle. And the nation will be devided because for good or bad reasons Ms. Clinton is devisive–people hate her or they love her and never the two shall meet.
Reread the endorsement–Mr. Obama got just as big a nod.

Margaret, Please look to comments of several Republican senators with whom Clinton has served. More often than not, these guys have said that Clinton worked with them and they admired and respected her. Even McCain has recently said he respected her.

Obviously history flies in the face of your vacuous claim that the woman "doesn't know how to work both sides of the aisle."

Obama, on the other hand, was recently slammed by McCain for his lack of experience. This experience factor will be the first and the surest stick to be raised by the Republican nominee (whoever it is) in beating Obama next November.

There's just no getting around the fact that he is a first term senator, and when he was in the Illinois statehouse, he left an inordinate number of "non-votes" in his wake. Apparently, Obama couldn't get himself down off the fence very often. Why should anyone have faith in such a non-comittal newbie?

I hope you are not deceived by Hillary Clintons tactics. People of America wake up and remember her throughout the Clinton administration. She rarely smiled and treated americans like she was better than everyone else. While her husband was playing footse with Monica his administration did nothing about the USS Cole disaster which allowed Osama power to attack the Twin Towers on Sept 11. She goes whichever way the wind blows and trys her smiling tactics in order to win votes. Her election would bring America to its knees with The Clintons allowing lobbyists to have their way. Instead of watching reality shows and media tactics on TV look at the direct issues affecting all Americans and realize that we need strong leadership with definite goals to be accomplished at this difficult time in our country. Not someone who crys and attacks other candidates when they take a firm stand. I wouldn't want another 4 years under the Clinton regime. I am an independent as so far no one has my vote. I'd rather vote for Mickey Mouse than any of these clowns. Americans demand a decent president for a change. One who believes in American values…not the dotted line to be used for their benefit….we have become nothing but pawns for them but they like to use our money to assist them in deceiving us. Thank you for reading and think before you act.

If McCain was so anti veteran why does he get support from veterans. And I as a veteran would welcome him as president. He is not perfect but no one is. The thing about McCain is he admits it. And the reason he does sometimes not vote for veteran related bills is because pork barrel spending is shoved in at the last minute. And he wont touch it then.

Unfortunately Democrats has succumbed to the GOP attack machine in ensuring that a woman do not occupy the White house. In 2000 they allowed the GOP to detect the pace of the election and elected George Bush instead of Al Gore…the result is the confusion of Bush's unfortunate Presidency.

Wait a minute what is the divisiveness of Clinton….this just a right wing effort to say so and the American people are buying such biased and dishonest tag.

Lets even check her record in the Senate…she has successfully worked across the Isle to bring decent legislation to the American people. Let us not base on envy and what her enemy say to vilify this intelligent and honest woman.

Go Hillary 2008!

It should be worrisome that in a time where politicians in Washinton can get nothing done due to partisan politics and that so many "insiders" are supporting these two candidates who hail experience at a time when their "experience" is showing bad judgments and failed policies.

Comments on here hail back to some of the same voiced by people who voted Bush back into office.

Hillary is the only candidate who has everything needed ot be a great leader. I like everyone of the democrats but Hillary stand above them all.

Obama's a visionary but is a naive one. This is dangerous world - see Pakistan's unrest and their vulnerable nuclear arsenal should security fall. Now is not the time for people talking theory based upon belief not tempered with the reality of actually dealing with it for real. It's like a med student claiming he's ready to separate con-joined twins. This isn't foreign policy 101, this is real life in a very dangerous world. So people, wake up: see the dangers and know Obama talks a good game and is quite the charmer, but in terms of national and international experience, he has virtually none. He became a Senator to run for the Presidency - he has NO experience: wake up people. We do not need someone with the equivalent of diapers of experience in national and international affairs running our country.

Hillary is the right one for the job. And Joe Biden as Secretary of state.

Josh   December 30, 2007 12:12 pm ET

Hillary does not have the experience to lead this nation. Being the wife of a governor and president, not even having a security clearance, does not give you experience. Hillary has done nothing in her life other than marry a famous husband and run for Senate in a state she had no connections with. Everything she has done has been politically motivated to be President.

Not because she is the best candidate..but because she thinkgs she deserves it and it's owed to her! And it is not! She is too devisive and half of the nation has already said they would not even consider to vote for her–the highest among all candidates of either party. She is unelectable–I'm a lifelong Democrat and I'd vote for Hucakbee or McCain over Hillary!

For the fist time in decades we have a candidate who not only can beat all the Republican candidates, but also has the intelligence, judgement, and real life experience to lead this nation, without sticking to polarizing values and devisiveness- and thats Senator Barack Obama!

We need real leadership–not a leader whose only experience is a failed health care policy and ceremonial hand shaking to lead this nation. Before we can achieve anything in this nation, we need a leader who can inspire the American people to once again become active and involved, motivated, and in touch with their souls and that is Senator Barack Obama.

This newspaper endoresement was essentially more graceful and positive for Sen. Obama then it was to Sen. Clinton. We have tried many times to pick a candidate because they have the so called "experience" to lead–i.e. Al Gore and Sen. Kerry–and it does not work. If no one likes the candidate's personality, judgement, and trustworthiness first and foremost, they cannot win! We saw this when Bill Clinton beat Bush #1 and then Bob Dole.

We can do better and we have a great crop of candidates, but we need new and fresh leadership, and change from the same ole' political system of the past. New issues, new times require new leadership, strong leadership, a leader with the judgement and intelligence to lead and that is Senator Barack Obama. As a state senator, someone who has lived overseas, a community organizer, professor, civil rights attorney, and now U.S. Senator–Barack Obama has the right kind of experience to lead this nation and the new issues it faces. The life experience he has, outweigh the experience that Bill Clinton had, JFK, Jimmy Carter, and the current President, among others.

We need a president who can truly speak to the American people as one of us. And that candidate is Senator Barack Obama. I don't know about you, but I do not want a dynasty–Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton! This is not England, we do not have a monarchy here and for good reason, it creates a system of corruption and only benefits those who have close connections to those in power. The choice of Barack Obama is an amazing opportunity for our party to elect a candidate who can truly make a difference and bring this nation together–because if we are divided we will be unable to tackle issues such as health care, education, energy policy, and terrorism. WE HAVE TO BE TOGETHER, NOT DIVIDED.

This nation cannot afford to go through another year 2000, where half the nation is for and the other half is against! We can do better people then Hillary Clinton–To simply vote for someone because of what their husband DID is erroneous and half-hearted. Most of the people I know who want to vote for Hillary Clinton essentially can't think of anything other then what her campaign has produced for them to say and if not that, because they like Bill Clinton. Ladies and gentlemen Bill Clinton would not be President, Hillary Clinton would be–who is more bent on changing history and clearing her name as well as her husband's then truly working for the American people.

We can do better! And that candidate is Barack Obama!

I must say that the monitor"s endorsement of Hillary proves that the paper understands the mechanics of American politics. It is impossible for one party to run the government of this country. For OBAMA to hope that change will come through working alone is a dream. For edwards to believe that change will come through fighting everyone who he sees as a threat is an inconceivable error .Let us be realistic that the Republicans need to be worked with in order to get things done for America.I must say that Hillary is the only canadite who understands this fact.VOTE HILLARY08.

Keating 5 scandal which follows and the resulting Senate Ethics investigation sound like basically what is going on today with the 20 Trillion dollars bubble in
Housing Market but not nearly as large.

The Keating Five (or Keating Five Scandal) refers to a Congressional scandal
related to the collapse of most of the Savings and Loan institutions in the
United States in the late 1980s.

Following the deregulation of the banking industry in the 1980s, savings and
loan associations (also known as thrifts) were given the flexibility to
invest their depositors' funds in commercial real estate. (Previously, they
had been restricted to investing in residential real estate.) Many savings
and loan associations began making risky investments. As a result, the
Federal Home Loan Bank Board, the federal agency that regulates the
industry, tried to clamp down on the trend. In so doing, however, the FHLBB
clashed with the Reagan administration, whose policy was deregulation of
many industries, including the thrift industry. The administration declined
to submit budgets to Congress that would request more funding for the
FHLBB's regulatory efforts.

In 1989, the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association of Irvine, Calif.,
collapsed. Lincoln's chairman, Charles H. Keating Jr., was faulted for the
thrift's failure. Keating, however, told the House Banking Committee that
the FHLBB and its former chief Edwin J. Gray were pursuing a vendetta
against him. Gray testified that several U.S. senators had approached him
and requested that he ease off on the Lincoln investigation. It came out
that these senators had been beneficiaries of $1.3 million (collective
total) in campaign contributions from Keating.

This allegation set off a series of investigations by the California
government, the United States Department of Justice, and the Senate Ethics
Committee. The ethics committee's investigation focused on five senators:
Alan Cranston (D-CA); Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ); John Glenn (D-OH); John
McCain (R-AZ); and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI), who became known as the
Keating Five.

After months of testimony revealed that all five senators acted improperly
to differing degrees, the senators continually said they were following the
status quo of campaign funding practices. In August 1991, the committee
concluded that Cranston, DeConcini, and Riegle's conduct constituted
substantial interference with the FHLBB's enforcement efforts and that they
had done so at the behest of Charles Keating. The committee recommended
censure for Cranston and criticized the other four for "questionable
conduct."

As it happened, Cranston, who was nearly 80 years of age, had already
decided not to run for re-election in 1992. DeConcini and Riegle continued
to serve in the Senate until their terms expired, but they did not seek
re-election in 1994.

Glenn did choose to run for re-election in 1992 and it was anticipated that
he would have some difficulty winning a fourth term in the Senate. However,
Glenn handily defeated U.S. Rep. R. Michael DeWine for one more term in the
Senate before retiring in 1999.

McCain also remained in the Senate and he made campaign finance reform a key
legislative interest. The scandal was followed by a number of attempts to
adopt campaign finance reform — spearheaded by U.S. Sen. David Boren
(D-OK) — but most attempts died in committee. A weakened reform was passed
in the first year of President Bill Clinton's first term of office.
Substantial campaign finance reform was not passed until the adoption of the
McCain-Feingold Act.

It is time for Change! And that candidate is Barack Obama!

Hillary Clinton's entire life has been about winning elections and playing politics. Principles have always come second to politics. Don't think that will change if she wins the White House. We need someone who who wont just go along with the agenda of the Washington establishment—-McCain or Obama

Cam K   December 30, 2007 3:02 pm ET

McCain is clearly the best republican candidate. Mitt can't be trusted!!! His record as governor of Mass is 180 degrees from what he is now saying he will do as President. NH voters usually get it right and it looks like they will again in 08.

I’m 18 years old and am very interested in politics. I’m voting for Hillary because she is very experienced in political intrigue. You may say that being First Lady in the Whitehouse doesn’t count as experience, but it was Hillary who gave her husband political advice when he was president, so she played more than just the role of “First Lady” She and her husband were political partners.
I’m also voting for Hillary because she has shown that she is able to take fire from the Republicans and the media, countless times, where ease Obama has received absolutely no heat from either of the parties, because he is so new to the game, but I’m sure the Republicans will find some dirt that no one knows about him.
I’ve done a lot of research on Hillary and know all about Whitewater, Filegate, and Travelgate. All of these scandals are such small issues that the media turned into such a big controversy. Why would the media turn these issues into such big issues? It’s because the four main medias are all owned by conservative Republicans, who would do all they could to hurt the Clinton administration. For those of you who don’t know about this, you should do more research on it. Why would these scandals be such big issues, when you never hear about how Dick Cheney and his friends are making billions of dollars off the war, by owning private companies and offering service to the army like food and transportation, when the army can do all that stuff by itself. Of course the Republican Conservatives who own the media don’t want to you to know how the Bush Administration is making billions off the war.
Regardless of the obstacles, Hillary has taken all this fire and has come out, I believe, as a stronger woman. Regardless of how her husband treated her, she saved his presidency, which goes to show you that she is human and is able to forgive him for his misdeeds. I always hear how people think she should have dumped him, which would be a very bad idea for political reasons, for her and her husband.

Hillary is the best person to help this country grow back to its previous economic strength and international stature. The last 8 years the Bush regime has ruined this country - remember, when he took office, Bill Clinton had FINALLY gotten this country out of debt, back in the black. What did the Republicans do? They raided the national wealth, and handed it back to Bush's rich friends, leaving this country impoverished, and unprepared to deal economically with the crises we faced! They broke the bank! I think it is amazing that Republicans pretend that they give money back to the people - they steal from the poor and give to the rich! Then they send all the poor kid's sons and daughters off to war to get killed - I didn't see Bush's daughters signing up for the Army. They just stayed home and partied, while our kids get killed. What a crock. Vote for Hillary so the middle and lower classes get fair treatment again. Ironically, when the less wealthy 95% of the country does better again, the MORAL rich people will do better as well. The only people who will suffer will be wealthy criminals. Vote for Hillary!

America is divided, this is a basic fact.

Obama will not be able to heal this division. If you listen to his speaches, his rhetoric, he is by far the single most agressive socialist to run on a major party ticket in over 75 years. Right now, this is not what America needs. This will only serve to divide our nation further along extremist lines on both sides of the isle.

Worse than his economics are his ""foreign policy"" skills. If you listen to what he says, you will realize, he has no basic ability to engage in international diplomacy. He would be no better than our current president, just in the opposite fashion.. Bush is the great decider (lol), and in his footsteps, Obama will be known as the great appeaser. Yes, there will be change under him- and it will be much for the worse. The senate and congress will not allow him to make the few pragmatic and realisitic changes he intends to make, and if he manages to push through a quarter of his vision, he will do us just as much harm as his predecessor has. And in his wake, will be a resurgence of the extreme neo-con movement which propelled Bush into office in the first place.

Back in 2000, many of the big campaign contributions to Ralph Naders' campagin were not from the green party or its membership. They were from republicians, often by proxy, often directly. The strategy here was simple, and it worked. It can be easily argued that if Nader had not run, Gore would most likely have won the vote of the electoral college.

The strategy now, is similar. Many of Obama's early supporters were working on behalf of the neo-con movement, with the intent of weakening the democratic front runner, Hillary Clinton. They wanted to divide the democratic party amongst multiple leaders, with the intent of weakening the strongest canidate they have to offer, before the primary elections even begin. They know Obama can not win in a general election against any republican canidate with real experience, and conversely, it would be very difficult to legitimately defeat Hillary Clinton if she secures the Democratic Nomination.

Speaking as a politically active New Yorker, I can tell you first hand that she is much more moderate in her principles and policies than the media would have people believe. She is pragmatic, and she does have a solid vision which drives her decisions. She is not foolish, however, and knows when her vision of what she believes is right needs to give way to the practicalities of fiscial and political circumstance {this being the place where single minded visionaries like Obama generally fail}.

Give Obama a couple more senate terms, or perhaps, as vice president under another democratic leader, and maybe in 2016 he will be mentally mature enough for the oval office. Now is not Obama's time. To nominate Obama will be to condem our nation to another 4 years of political misfortune.

To Lynn Jensen:

You talk about Bush's children not signing up to fight the Iraq war. Let me ask you a question. Did we see Hillary's kid sign up? You know that Hillary did vote FOR the war. She then flip-flops and says she is against the war. Now SHE is leading the push to go after Iran. I wouldn't be supprised she says soon she wants to go after Pakistan.

Guess what friends, this country needs a REAL leader. A leader that was AGAINST the Iraq war from the beginning. A leader that will not fight ANY war unless war is declared by Congress, as stated in the Constitution. As we know, no formal declaration of war was EVER voted on for Iraq.

We also need a leader that understands the loss of jobs and the gap between that haves and have nots is not because of tax cuts for the rich, but because our dollar is weak and getting weaker. This leader will rid the country of the IRS and the Federal Income Tax allowing ALL of us to keep more of our money.

Christopher Hamilton   December 30, 2007 11:11 pm ET

Reading these comments proves, at least to me, that Hillary is unelectable. And, John William, to your comment about "dog years" I'd rather have successful dog years than years of an unelected First Lady and completely WRONG senator. By the way, Darlene from CA, I live in Washington DC and lived and worked with people from the Clinton Administration. There isn't a single one of them who I'd trust or even liked socially - and I'm a hard-core DEMOCRAT! The Clinton's are a MACHINE, obsessed with power. I liked Bill, I loved some of his policies and I'm grateful for most of Bill Clinton's time in office. But that was BILL, NOT HILLARY. And I'm sorry, but First Lady SIMPLY DOES NOT COUNT. Particularly when you consider the divisive figure she was in the 90's and how abjectly she failed with her health care plan. She says now that Bill won't sit in on National Security Meetings. A) Bill has a higher security clearance than she does, and B) there is NO WAY that Hilllary would not share that information with a former head of state. It's not honest, plain and simple. Plus, and most importantly I think, the country simply DOES NOT WANT A REPEAT OF THE NINETIES! It's the 21st century, and we have major issues to address. And to address them, we need both sides of the aisle. They simply will not come with Hillary Clinton in office. Full stop. Vote Obama '08. It's the only way to get the America we want back into the world.

If you have a chance to visit Monterey Park, CA Chinese restaurants in 2000, you would notice 10 out of 10 put up George W Bush pictures at main entrance.

Now, you go to Monterey Park, CA Chinese restaurants in December, 2007, you would notice almost 10 out of 10 put up Hillary Clinton pictures at main entrance.

The trend never lie! Everyone understand why Al Gore lost 2000, he lost Cuban community support in Florida (including Key west critical 200,000 votes) and everyone understand Hillary Clinton will win 2008 with Florida, Arkansas, Virginia, and Ohio on her belt in 2008!

American Chinese understand something those OBAMA and EDWARDS people don't!!!

Daniel F. O'Keefe   January 1, 2008 2:03 pm ET

I like Edwards. He fights for the little guy. His battles are with Big Business, and the Lobby people. He understands that they are for Big Bussiness and will not just surrender there power. We have to take it back from them. They are neither compassinate, nor loving their game is Profits at all cost, and the price is being paid by the poor, and middleclass. We need a drastic change, someone who will stand up to thesefull interest . Dan .
