State of the Nation
Sorry, this event is either not on sale yet or has been and gone.Conference Room
Michael Billington discusses State of the Nation, a challenging look at the vast upheavals that have taken place in Britain and its theatre since the Second World War.
State of the Nation is a fascinating exploration of the intimate relationship between British theatre and society since World War Two. Looking at the work of many of Britain's great playwrights he presents British theatre as a microcosm of the world outside.
Michael Billington has been theatre critic of The Guardian since 1971, and as Britain's longest-serving theatre critic, he offers a passionate defense of the dramatist as the medium's key creative figure. Controversial, witty and informed, he offers a fresh look at the recent history of Britain and its theatre over the course of sixty turbulent years.
