March 1, 2006 Rhia M. Martin (C’07) was awarded the UNCF-Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Award.

Rhia M. Martin (C’07), a Chemistry major and undergraduate researcher in Professor Christian Wolf’s lab, was awarded the UNCF-Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship award. Rhia was one of only fifteen students nationwide to be awarded the highly competitive scholarship in 2006.

The award—sponsored by The Merck Institute for Science Education and administered by The United Negro College Fund—consists of a scholarship up to $25,000 and two summer internship stipends totaling a minimum of $10,000. According to UNCF and Merck, the “program is designed to increase the number of African Americans in the pipeline of biomedical science education and research.”
