Slightly lower inflation rate

Swedish consumer price index decreased by 0.8 % from December to January. Decreasing prices between December and January accounted for 0.3 percentage points whereas CPI basket changes accounted for as much as 0.5 percentage points at the turn of the year 2007/2008. The composition of the CPI basket is revised annually. The inflation rate decreased to 3.2 % in January from 3.5 % in December. The larger CPI basket revision effect this year contributed down by 0.2 - 0.3 percentage points in January.

Swedish labour market increased by 2.7 percent

The number of employees increased in total by 2.7 percent to 4 135 200 during the fourth quarter 2007, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The increase was primarily seen in the private sector, with 4.7 percent more employees. Gross pay development amounted to 7.6 percent in total and 8.5 percent in the private sector.

Shares and funds showed large capital gains in 2006

Taxable capital gains rose by SEK 34 billions, 35%, between 2005 and 2006. The increase is due to larger profits from sales of shares, funds and other securities. The greatest capital gains were made by older men.

New constructionDecrease in new construction of multi-dwelling buildings

During 2007, construction of 29 700 dwellings was started in new buildings. This is a decrease of 34 percent compared to 2006, when construction of 45 281 dwellings was started. The low figures are mostly due to the ending of government subsidies as of 2007-01-01.

Sweden's population continues to grow

During 2007 Sweden's population increased by 69 670 people and, on New Year's Eve 2007 Sweden, had 9 182 927 inhabitants. Population growth was thus larger than in 2006. Immigration and emigration also surpassed the 2006 record.

More households switched electricity suppliers in 2007

An increasing number of customers switch electricity suppliers by actively making a choice. Compared to the year before, 24 percent more household customers switched suppliers. The increase was largest during the first six months of 2007.
