GRANT GUIDELINES
2007

Since its inception in 1986, The Streisand Foundation has made grants totaling nearly 15 million dollars to national organizations working on preservation of the environment, voter education, the protection of civil liberties and civil rights, women’s issues and nuclear disarmament.

In 1993, the Foundation added as a priority projects targeting economically disadvantaged youth in Los Angeles.

The Foundation offers both general and project-specific support. Awards range from $1,000 to $25,000; the average award amount is between $10,000 and $20,000.

At this time, The Streisand Foundation only considers requests from United States based non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations that are working on a national level to promote and support:

  • Environmental issues
  • Women's issues including reproductive choice and health-related concerns
  • Civil liberties and democratic values
  • Civil rights and race relations
  • Children’s and youth-related issues with a focus on the economically disadvantaged (Los Angeles-based only)
  • AIDS research, advocacy, service and litigation

As a rule, The Foundation does not fund local organizations. However, we do make an exception for projects in Los Angeles providing educational and extracurricular programs for disadvantaged children and youth.

We do not provide support to individuals, start-up organizations, or endowment / capital campaign grants. In addition, we generally do not fund documentaries or other types of audio-visual programming or the publication of books or magazines.

  • A description of the proposed project including objectives, target population(s) and a brief timeline.
  • Amount requested from the Foundation.
  • Contact name, phone and address information.

In addition to the letter, please attach the following:
  • An up-to-date copy of your organization's IRS tax determination letter indicating 501(c)(3) and public charity status.
