Financial Infrastructure Division

One of the Division’s main tasks is to identify and counteract structural vulnerabilities in the financial system. An important part of this work consists of the regular monitoring and annual assessments of the security and efficiency of the financial infrastructure, primarily in the various clearing and settlement systems in the Swedish market. The Division also works, at both a national and international level, with issues concerning financial stability, banking legislation and development of the infrastructure. Responses to consultation documents are an important element of this work.

The Division’s other main task is to be responsible for maintaining a crisis organisation, which can, in the event of a financial crisis, deal with banks applying for emergency liquidity assistance. This work is aimed at managing a crisis as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to reduce the costs to society.

The work is conducted in cooperation with other Swedish authorities, other central banks and with the Swedish banks and other financial market participants. The Division also participates actively in international organisations such as the European Central Bank, ECB, and the Bank for International Settlements, BIS. The results of its efforts are reported mainly in the Financial Stability Report but also in the form of articles in other Riksbank publications.
