The Investment Division

The Investment Division manages the Riksbank’s assets in the form of gold and foreign currency (i.e. the Swedish gold and foreign exchange reserve).  The main objective is to generate, through long-term strategic investments and tactical management, the highest possible return on the foreign exchange reserve, given existing restrictions. This management is carried out within the overall guidelines set by the Executive Board.

The value of the gold and foreign exchange reserve was at the end of 2007 around SEK 168 billion, of which around SEK 22 billion was in gold. The foreign exchange reserve is divided into six currencies: 50% euro, 20% US dollars, 10% British pounds, 10% Norwegian krone, 5% Canadian dollars and 5% Australian dollars. The foreign exchange reserve is mostly invested in government-guaranteed bonds.

Organisation
